A street sign appears to make a political statement near the controversial Mount Soledad Cross Veterans Memorial in La Jolla California, Sunday, October 21 2007.  A cross has stood on the site since 1913 but in 1989 litigation began to have the cross removed from public land to comply with the first amendment of the United States Constitution separation of church and state.  In 1998 the city of San Diego attempted to resolve the conflict by selling area surrounding the cross was sold to a private group as the first sign explains.  Many residents believed that this was the ?wrong way? to solve the issue.
