Detective Brenda Richmond of San Diego Police Department's Central Division with two of the three hundred disadvantaged children who took part in the annual Shop-With-a-Cop event at the Sports Arena Target store in San Diego on December 1, 2007.  Many of the children rose well before dawn in order to be ready for the fleet of buses that collected them from every corner of the county.  The buses took them to SeaWorld where they were paired up with an officer for the event.  After breakfast they made their way to the Target store in a huge, convoy of more than three hundred police vehicles with sirens blaring, lights flashing and Santa waving from a police helicopter hovering above them.  Each child had a $100 gift card to spend and many of them resisted the temptation to buy toys and choose instead to get clothes for themselves, their siblings or parents.
