Saturday, June 21 2009. Pacific Beach, San Diego, CA, USA: Dr. Marcus and his wife Eriksen and Anna Cummins of the environmental group Algalita Marine Research Foundation (AMRF) make breakfast with a bicycle-powered blender in PB one day after completing a six-week journey from Vancouver to TJ to raise awareness about marine debris. The couple spoke at 40 different events along the way and presented 5 mayors with samples of the "plastic soup" that they collected form a remote part of the Pacific Ocean known as the North Pacific Gyre. The confluence of currents in that area of the Pacific has created a high concentration of marine debris - particularly plastics - that is clogging the area, endangering marine life and entering our food chain.
